Halacha - canine burial

Question:
Answer: I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your pet and I understand the dilemma you face. It's true that Judaism forbids cremation of human remains. however the primary reason for this is because it demonstrated a lack of belief in the ultimate resurrection. Since even a very loyal animal that has completely fulfilled its purpose in this world is not destined to be resurrected, there is no problem cremating it. Furthermore, cremation is considered disrespectful to the human body which was created in "G-d's image", but this reason too does not apply to man's best friend.
